LAYOUT OF A MOTOR VEHICLE

 


Motor vehicle is made up from many separate items. These items are fitted together to form a unit or components which are mounted onto either frame or a body shell to form chassis.

The vehicle comprises of the fellowing

1. Frame

2. Body

3. Engine 

4. Transmission system 

5. Suspension system  

6. Steering system 

7. Brakes system  

8. Electrical systems


1. FRAME

It is used to form the skeleton of the vehicle and its functions is to carry on all the units of the vehicle. The frame must be strong that it can sustain high pressure. It is made up from either steel pressing welded or revited together to make it reinforcement.

2. BODY

It is made up from a large number of steel pressing which are welded together with doors, bonnet and boot to form a weather proof and comfortable compartment for the driver and the passengers.

3. ENGINE 

It’s the unit that converts the heat energy into mechanical energy and also act as a power unit of the vehicle which consist of radiator for cooling, fuel, ignition and lubrication system. 

4. TRANSMISSION 

This system transmit the drive or power from the engine to the road wheels. This system consist of clutch, gearbox, propeller shaft and final drive.

5. SUSPENSION SYSTEM 

This system absorbs the road shocks and keeps the vehicle height within a reasonable limit.

6. STEERING SYSTEM 

This system helps to control or direct the movement of the vehicle. 

7. BRAKING SYSTEM 

This system is to retard or stop the movement of the vehicle 

8. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 

The system provides lighting engine starting and other needs
